Patient Liability Determination (Medi-Cal)

Most patients, whether or not they have insurance, pay part of the cost for their medical care out of their own pockets. Patient liability is any amount a patient owes a healthcare provider that is not covered by a third-party insurer. In this course, we consider the factors used to determine patient liability for both insured and uninsured patients.

  • Identify the importance of determining patient liability
  • Define the components of patient liability
  • Name methods for determining what patients owe out-of-pocket
  • Differentiate between determining liability for uninsured and insured patients
